(This is a pic looking across the fence from my yard - I love those trees!!! And beautiful blue sky!)
I am sorry that I have not been keeping up with posting here - we all get caught up and have busier than normal periods in our life and the last few weeks has been one of those periods for me!
The CPN has been going through some exciting times though! The Riverwalker/Stealth Survival Holiday Give-a-way is finished and Sue from Short Fat Morman Chick is the winner of some great fireplace accessories!!! I must admit that I was honoured when Riverwalker asked to do a contest with the CPN - Riverwalker is like the Father of these Prepper Networks having established the first network, the Texas Preppers Network. And he is a very respected man in the prepper/survivalist world due to his amazing skills that he shares at his blog Stealth Survival! So like I said, I was honoured to do the CPN's first contest with him - he has many Canadian followers and in checking out the traffic logs, many of his readers dropped in to the CPN and I hope that some of them come back! In true Riverwalker fashion, he asked to do the contest with the CPN because he wanted to thank his Canadian readers - what a man, eh?
In continuing on with how busy the CPN has been keeping me - we got 2 new contributors over the past few weeks - woohoo for us! Frazer is taking over the Manitoba Preppers Network and Jack Sellers is taking over at the Saskatchewan Preppers Network!!! Both of them have already started posting like mad on their respective provinces and I am really glad to have them on board!
Lastly - and this is really exciting news - Scarecrow over at the Ontario Preppers Network passed 10,000 page views yesterday morning! For those of you who haven't read any of Scarecrow's work - I highly recommend that you do. Put simply - he has some of the best Canadian prepping information on the net! And he has a lot of information - he posts just about every single day! I wrote a Congratulations post for him here. 10,000 unique page views since February 2009 is quite an accomplishment!
So, like I said, the CPN has been keeping me quite busy lately. Not that I mind. No, no I really do not mind being kept busy with all of this great stuff!
Other things that have been keeping me busy are the usual - harvesting, canning, getting the yard ready for winter. I love those kinds of chores. We celebrated Canadian Thanksgiving on the weekend of October 10-12. Thanksgiving is my favourite holiday of the year! Even though it is only my husband and I, we still do a full-on turkey, homemade stuffing, mashed potatoes, honeyed carrots, brussel sprouts with bacon and from-scratch cranberry-ginger-apple-pear sauce! And delicious turkey gravey - I can eat turkey gravey like soup I love it so much!
Here is a pic of our Thanksgiving dinner - we spend the evening before prepping all of the veggies, etc., the next day we spend all morning cooking everything and setting it all on the table - and then we stuff our faces for about 20 minutes and crawl to the couch moaning and groaning and un-doing our pants. But we eat like kings for the next week making more plates of turkey dinner, fries and turkey gravey (did I mention that I love turkey gravey?), turkey cold plates, turkey sandwiches and then when all of the best meat is used up I make turkey soup from the left-over meat and carcass.
This year I outdid myself with my home-made stuffing! It was really delicious! I made my own croutons for the stuffing and then mixed it with juice from the turkey giblets, celery, tons of spices, walnuts and craisins! Here is a pic of the stuffing:
And last but not least, my cranberry-ginger-pear-apple sauce - it is such a pretty colour and tastes divine!
Well...because I am such a lover of pics and can't help myself once I start - here is a pic of the very last daisy of the season. This pic was taken on October 13 and the little daisy died on October 19 (due to frost). I am really glad that I got a pic of the little daisy as it kind of popped up out of nowhere in early October. And we haven't had daisies in the yard since mid-Septemberish.
And last but not least - here is a pic of the full moon last night - so beautiful!
I did some quick searching on the internet to find out why this full moon felt so strange and wonderful all at the same time. There are many names for the early November full-moon and many descriptions - some of the names are Harvest Moon, Hunter's Moon, Trader's Moon, Beaver Moon. There is much folklore and Native North American tales about the November full-moon.
Anyway - this post really got away from me and doesn't have much to do with prepping at all. So I will do what any good leader in history has done - I will steal posts from others - teehee. If you have read all through this post and are disappointed by the lack of prepping-related info - check out the following links. Scarecrow recently did an amazing series entitled "Do 1 Thing" over at the OPN...there are 13 posts involved and in each post he busts out each 1 prepping-related "thing" into steps. It is some of his best work to date. Check these out:

Seeing all those photos has made me very hungry!
The landscapes are beautiful too. We don't really celebrate Thanksgiving here in the UK, but seeing all that wonderful food, I wish we did! As long as someone else is cooking it! :D
Cool Joe - if you (and your bling and DJ equipment) ever make it to these parts - i will cook you up a fantastic Thanksgiving meal - even if it's in July!!!!
thanks for stopping in dude!
How cool that you caught the last daisy on digital. It's like summer is a child saying ... 'Just one more?'
Your Thanksgiving dinner looks delishious! I agree with LL, my tummy's grumbling too!
